Hellooooo weekend! And apple cider. And wine 😍. And a crazy season of The Bachelorette. I promise that I will tell you all about the amazing deliciousness that is this apple cider sangria…
can we just talk for a minute about this season of The Bachelorette? I mean, seriously. What in the heck is going on with 2020?!? Also, I’m totally undecided on how I feel about Clare and I’m definitely not sure if I believe her whole “we-never-talked-even-once-before-the-show” thing. And maybe he is dazzling and charming and stunning off camera, but Dale? Really? He seemed kind of…😑
But we (yes, we, after we got married I got Lane sucked into The Bachelor too 🤣) really like Tayshia. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about her, but she seems super sweet, polite, down to earth, and awesome. And Eazy. We really want him to be the next bachelor.
Alright. I’m Done now.
Back to this drink. Apple cider sangria. It just sounds so perfect for fall, doesn’t it? And with Thanksgiving falling on an election year, let’s face it – we’re all going to need some booze to make it through a family dinner. It’s also a great drink for cuddling up on the couch and watching trashy TV. Not that we do that…but ya know…in case other people out there do 😜.
In the summer I go a little nuts over all the amazing veggies that are in season, but for fall I am all about the fruits. And the squashes, of course. But mostly the fruits. And this apple cider sangria combines all my favorites: oranges, apples, cranberries, and pomegranates.
I think there is something so old-timey and almost mystical about pomegranates. I love when they are in season. Sure, it’s a little work cutting in to them and picking out all the seeds, but it is so worth it. In case you have never cut in to a pomegranate before, allow me to walk you through it:
- Score the pomegranate into quarters, starting at the top and gently cutting all the way down – don’t cut through the fruit.
- Using your fingers, break the pomegranate into the 4 scored quarters.
- Grab a bowl. Remove the white membrane from the seeds and put the seeds in the bowl. Enjoy!
Easy-peasy. And IDK why, but I think pomegranate seeds make foods and drinks look a lot classier 🤷🏻♀️
No recipe notes for this apple cider sangria – its pretty straightforward. Just stir your apple cider with your booze, add the fruit, and sit back and let 2020 wash away. This will all be over soon?
Apple Cider Sangria
- 1 c apple cider
- 1/4 c bourbon
- 1 bottle semi-sweet or sweet white wine I used a pinot
- 1/4 c granulated sugar
- 2 oranges sliced
- 1 pear diced
- 2 apples diced
- 1/4 c cranberries rinsed and mushy cranberries removed
- 1 pomegranate quartered and seeds removed
- ice cubes
- 6 cinnamon sticks
- In a large pitcher, mix together the apple cider, bourbon, wine, and sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves.
- Add in fruit (saving some for garnish) and as much ice as you want. Pour in to glasses and garnish with saved fruit and cinnamon sticks. Enjoy!
